Thanksgiving Day Snow Report Update [11/28]

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Granite Peak! We’re so excited to kick off the season and can’t wait to see all of you out on the slopes this weekend. Yesterday we shared our plan to open Blitzen to Mid-Station with access to Hot Cocoa and thanks to an excellent night of snowmaking, we’ve got some exciting additions to share for Opening Day.

Snowmaking Progress & Opening Day Terrain

Cold temperatures overnight gave us one of the most productive snowmaking windows we’ve had so far this season. Our teams worked straight through the night and are continuing right through the holiday pushing out snow, widening runs, and farming piles into skiable terrain.

With that progress, we’re now expecting to open the Grom Park on Friday, featuring a jump and around six early-season features. It’s a great bonus to kick off the season and adds a bit of much anticipated fun for our freestyle skiers and riders right from day one.

We still anticipate opening Blitzen to Mid-Station, providing access to Hot Cocoa for early-season laps. While we had hoped for top to bottom skiing on day one, our focus remains getting you on snow as soon as we can, safely, and with a surface we’re proud of.

Looking Ahead to the Weekend

The continued cold temps in the forecast mean we’ll be expanding terrain quickly. If conditions continue trending the way they have, we expect to open:

  • Meadows serviced by the Blizzard Conveyor, and

  • Blitzen all the way to the top with skiing on Sundance as early as Saturday.

As always, these openings are weather-dependent, but based on last night’s productivity, we’re feeling optimistic that we'll be skiing from the top this weekend. If you haven't read it yet, check out all we have planned for our opening weekend celebration in our snow report update from yesterday, just below this post. We're stoked to see you on the slopes less than 24 hours from now!

We’ll continue sharing updates as progress unfolds. In the meantime, check out the map below for a visual of what’s open, what’s next, and what’s on deck:

  • Green: Opening Friday
  • Yellow: Snowmaking in progress — opening soon
  • Blue: Up next on the snowmaking plan

Looking towards the first weekend in December, we expect to be in an entirely different place after a rock solid week of round the clock snowmaking. We're eyeing Exhibition, Upper Dusky, Lower Dusky, Birch and Miracle served by Comet in time for our reopening on Friday December 5th.
