Role Overview:
Snowcat Operators (Groomers) are responsible for creating the smooth, consistent snow surfaces that define the guest's experience on the mountain. Operating powerful snowcats and grooming equipment, they execute the nightly grooming plan while adapting to changing weather and snow conditions to ensure trails are safe, consistent, and enjoyable.
This is a hands-on, equipment-intensive position that requires focus, precision, and a commitment to safety in an alpine environment. Working primarily at night, Snowcat Operators shape the mountain for the next day’s guests and play a critical role in delivering the best skiing and riding surfaces all season long.
Responsibilities
- Mountain Grooming Execution: Own the safe and efficient operation of snowcats and grooming equipment to deliver consistent, high-quality snow surfaces according to the nightly grooming plan.
- Trail & Surface Quality: Monitor grooming results with a focus on surface quality over quantity; ski or ride trails periodically to assess outcomes and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
- Equipment Care & Maintenance: Perform daily inspections, preventative maintenance, and basic cleaning of grooming machines. Keep the cab and controls clean after each shift; assist Vehicle Maintenance with more advanced tasks as needed.
- Safety & Compliance: Uphold all safety standards related to heavy equipment operation in alpine environments; recognize and communicate hazards promptly to supervisors.
- Communication & Coordination: Maintain clear, timely communication with the Grooming Manager and fellow operators regarding grooming priorities, trail conditions, and shift updates.
- Cross-Departmental Support: Collaborate with other mountain operations teams, including Snowmaking and Vehicle Maintenance, to support overall resort operations and seasonal needs.
- Operational Readiness: Maintain shop cleanliness, organize tools/equipment, and contribute to special projects or assignments that enhance grooming efficiency or guest experience.
