Getting Ready

It's mid-October and the anticipation for another season of skiing and snowboarding is starting to build.

First though...  We have this little season I like to call Snowmaking Season.  It typically occurs in November and December and I love it!!

When will re-ramp up the guns?  Anytime Mother Nature gives us a window of opportunity.  When we do don't worry you'll know - we'll be screaming it from every outlet we operate!

Cool Toys

Think of the excitement and joy you felt, or have witnessed in your own children, receiving a bike on Christmas morning.

That similar twinkle in the eye was expressed by our Assistant Mountain Operations Director Kellen when the Prinoth "J'raffe" showed up. He grabbed the keys and nobody was allowed to touch it.  Pronounced like the animal Giraffe, this machine was pretty sweet.  It had this cockpit (similar to the side of the Millenneum Falcon), with groomer like tracks and a huge boom.  At the end of this boom a circulating saw the size of car tire that could be extended 100's of feet in the air.

We used this for a week to trim back limbs and trees near all of our lifts and some difficult to reach locations where snowmaking machines are located.

Thank you to Prinoth for letting us demo. We might be adding this puppy to our fleet in the future.

Mowing

Ry has also been behind the sticks of our mowing groomer this fall.  We mow our slopes down (at last the main ones) before we turn the snowmaking guns to get as much brush and high grass out of the way, so that our snow gets to the ground quicker to create that initial base.

Testing

We've already completed one water test on our pipes, guns and pumps but we'll be doing another one here on Thursday in the Eastern Trails. If you happen to be driving by and see the guns on up top on trails like Superstition etc that's why!

Well you really like us.  Season Passes once again are on the up and up.  Not only here but for our two sister resorts both Lutsen and Snowriver.  I take it you like the added value of having the other two properties on your season pass!  I knew you would and I'm excited for all who do venture up to either property as both have extensive upgrades!  You can check those out for yourselves on their respective websites & social media channels.

When will passes be mailed out or available for pick up?  - Likely the week of October 28th.

Creating a multi-mountain pass product is not as easy as simply turning a switch and allowing all passes to work. Lots of behind-the-scenes database logic and technology between resorts needs to happen. A process that is handled by a very talented individual up at Lutsen named Amanda. She is still involved with the process of getting our wonderful systems to "talk" as the fire Lutsen sustained this summer, knocking out their servers certainly them and her back about two months. Excuses aside, passes will be available before we open up the slopes don't worry. (You really don't need them for anything at this time).
