Snow, Cold, & The Super Bowl

Posted: Feb 3, 2021

It’s been a crazy few weeks as our team finished up snowmaking and I got the flu.  I was out for a few days unfortunately early this week and I’m sorry I haven’t written in a little bit.  It is my intention to write one of these every week.

Sellouts, Snowmaking Facts & Bad Karma to Ski Thieves!

Thank you for using our Advanced Ticketing System.  We have been certainly busy but by keeping our advanced tickets to a comfortable level the experience at the resort has been in my opinion great.  (But I am biased.)  Coming from a company like Peak Resorts and previous roles at East Coast resorts where volume was massive on holiday weekends, the simply busy crowd has been nice to manage.  So far this season we have sold out eight days 7 of those being “holiday” dates and then last Saturday, January 9th.

While it didn’t snow a whole ton here in December it certainly was a fun month for many here at Granite Peak!

Even though Mother Nature hasn’t blessed us with the natural snow that is normal for this time of year and this region, she certainly has helped us create a winter environment by dropping the temps this past week!

Week #2 is in the books and we continue to make progress and terrain expansions.  This week will be no exception although we unfortunately aren’t getting the snowmaking temperatures at night we’d like.

Learning, Expanding, & Remembering

Posted: Nov 29, 2020

Opening up in the midst of a pandemic has been tricky and we are learning everyday on how to handle our operations.  I want to thank everyone for  mostly adhering to our requirements.  As we’ve said all along expect changes and we’ve been doing our best to stay on top of the way our guests and season pass holders are flowing through our facilities and lifts.  It’s been a good test because demand is obviously there as many visited us this weekend!

Opening Day Plans

Posted: Nov 19, 2020

Snowmaking Continues but here’s what to expect for opening day as of today.

Right now we feel confident with our snowmaking operations that we will have the most open terrain within the state of Wisconsin with multiple top to bottom runs off of two of our main lifts,  Comet and Blitzen.  With learning center  terrain off of our carpet of Blizzard.

Opening Day – November 25th

Posted: Nov 11, 2020

Snowmaking has resumed!  Our team worked hard to make the most snow we’ve ever made in the month of October and our commitment to one of Wisconsin’s longest ski season is still very much on the table.  Piles of snow still remained but as you can imagine 70 degree weather and the rain of November 10th hurt our snowpack enough that we’ll be pushing our planned opening back a few days to November 25th.  This will give our snowmaking team a few more days to get the snow on the ground and pushed out for skiing and snowboarding.

Ski Well. Be Well. COVID-19 Operations.

Posted: Nov 6, 2020

We are entering our 82nd winter ski season with challenges never before undertaken by the ski industry. We are asking for your participation in our operational plan, created with guidance from National Ski Areas Association Ski Well, Be Well plan. The goal is to embark on a fun winter season on the slopes for all!
We are following the operating plans being laid out in the industry as resorts prepare for the season. We anticipate there will be evolving guidance throughout the winter, hopefully, we can be flexible together.

Resorts across the country have unique markets, operations, and capacities. We need to do what is best for our resort and guests. We will do our best to be out front and communicate as much as we can for the 2020 – 2021 season. We realize that, while our goal is to provide a safe and friendly environment amid the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s unlikely we will please everyone with our practices, we are going to do our best to provide the most safe, and enjoyable experience you can have on the slopes so please read through this and use it as a guideline prior to your visit to Granite Peak this season.
