Marvelous March

Snowflake Separator icon

People have asked me what my favorite time to ski.  It’s undoubtably March.  In my opinion March always seems to deliver conditions across the gambit of fun.  You can get powder days, soft spring days and you can even get days where the snow is fast and fun in the morning followed by soft & buttery in the afternoon.  This year the extended forecast is looking great with temps creeping into the low 30s next week for highs.  Nothing that will change up our conditions but I love a good goggle tan day.

March also brings a ton of events and we are jam packed this year.

Mardi Gras, Rail Jams, Demo Day & Fireworks – March 5

We kick things off with a huge weekend on March 5 & 6 with our last Family Festival of the year.  Mardi Gras themed!  In Historic Lodge find some Mardi Gras special Hurricane cocktails, New Orleans style food specials, and plenty of flare from our wait staff.  Outside we’ll have a scavenger hunt for beads and prizes across the hill with a new Rail Jam event Show us Your Tricks and Demo Day will also be going down on Main Street!  We finish the big day off with a huge Fireworks celebration at night.

Granite Grom Jam – March 6

Sunday, March 6th is also our last Granite Grom Jam of the season.  Easily my favorite event as I love to watch the little 12 & under guys and girls rip it up out there.  This series has become incredibly popular as we’ve sold out the last one and increased our registered athletes to 50!  We have a few spots left so register here and choose March 6 in the date field.

Season Passholder Appreciation Weekend – March 12 & 13

The following weekend is our Season Passholder Appreciation Weekend.  All passes including Midweek Passes are valid for this special weekend!  Saturday we’ll have a special passholder BBQ with free hot dogs, burgers, brats, & beverages courtesy of Mid-Wisconsin Beverages and New Glarus Brewing.  We’ll once again have a huge passholder raffle for various prizes including local restaurant gift certificates, lodging certificates, Granite Peak logowear items, custom trail signs and more.  Sunday morning join me in the Historic Chalet for coffee, donuts and a Q&A about what our team is looking at for the future of Granite Peak this next year and beyond.

Season Passholder Weekend Event

The Main Event – March 19

Next up – The Main Event Slopestyle on March 19th in White Wolf.  This throw down features a full run through the entire park and is designed for the best of the best here at Granite Peak.  Ry and the Peak Park guys will have White Wolf in tip top shape for an event that will give spectators on Cupid Lift some entertainment throughout the day!

Main Event Slopestyle

The Spring Fling – Pond Skim, Fool House, & the Cardboard Cup March 26 & 27

The last weekend of March is a fun one as we have a jam packed weekend full of fun for the entire family.  We will be hosting the crowd favorite Pond Skim on Saturday followed by a huge concert in Sundance with Fool House on Saturday night and then on Sunday we host the 2nd Annual Cardboard Cup!  This year’s theme is Nautical – ships, boats, fish, marine animals, etc!   All cardboard sleds must be made of cardboard, duct tape, and zip ties and nothing else.  Of course paint and pieces of flair are necessary as well as costumes.  Sleds must have at least a pilot & a co-pilot.  Actual Cardboard Cups (yes we are making trophy’s out of cardboard) will be awarded in a number of categories including fastest sled, kids entry, employee entry, business entry and judges choice.

I’m sure many of you are interested in when season passes will be on sale!  We are working on fine tuning these and the products that will be available for the 22-23 season and we should have this information out in early March.  We’ll also be looking at switching up some of our operations towards the middle of the month as the sun gets high in the sky and the Historic Deck becomes the place to be.

It’s been an awesome season the snow conditions, continue to be fantastic and deep.  While we haven’t picked up huge storms this year Mother Nature has kept it cold and we’ve received a few quick hitters over the last few weeks that keep replenishing the snow in the glades and on the slopes.

I’ll see you out there!

I have snowboarded in Colorado, Washington State, Oregon and all three in Arizona; I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the runs here at Granite Peak.
    Great place to have fun.

12 noon and you sign up the day of the event in the Historic Chalet. All those in the sled must sign waivers.
