Family Fun & 100% Here We Come!

Snowflake Separator icon

This weekend packs it all in with the most snow & terrain in Wisconsin!

As the calendar flips to 2022 I can’t thank my staff enough for a successful and fun Christmas Holiday & New Years week.  During that week we fully opened our Historic Restaurant and building, added 8″ of new snow (and removed it all from our parking areas) and opened up the Dasher lift along with two new terrain parks in the East!

98% Open.  Only Western Frontier to Go!

The team is not slowing down and by the end of this weekend we should be real close to skiing on 100% of our terrain with our full four park build outs completed!  The last few days we’ve been opening up terrain in the West such as Legends, Gem Stone, Panorama and Timber Pass.  Friday, Infinity, Main Event and Silver Birch should join the fun and that leaves Western Frontier which is getting pounded with snow as I type this.  That could open by Sunday and then folks we are 100% open.  With today’s snowfall and more shots later this week skiing and riding across all of our terrain including in the trees should be fantastic!

Here’s a few snap shots from the West from our grooming team as they push out the snow on Infinity & Legends:

Four Full Parks

Not to be outdone the Peak Parks team will be busy moving features off Aspen and creating a boardercross course as well as adding our final park – The Grom Park over near Blitzen on Mystery.  This park will be for our little guys, girls and those who are just learning freestyle fun.  Excited to see what Ry, Chris, Brody and the rest of our park rangers have in store.  These guys continue to push the envelope of creativity and I love it.

Moguls are Coming

As an avid skier I love the challenge of all terrain.  I can tell you I am simply not a great mogul skier, but chasing my son down mountains across this country I have improved greatly.  I’ve challenged our grooming team to develop some manmade moguls this week and beyond.  Very soon you’ll find moguls on IdleWild, West Sundance, Infinity and we’ll even create some baby ones for practice above our learning area on Meadows.  Our Snow Report will list them if moguls are present.

Wisconsin Wednesday Nights

If you’ve followed me on social media, met me at the resort or just have read this this blog you probably have picked up that I love to run this property, ski and I also enjoy the après ski scene! Every Wednesday night we embrace the the state we call home for Wisconsin Wednesdays!  Lift tickets & rentals will be $20 each and we’ll have $5 specials on Wisconsin Old Fashioned cocktails and Wisconsin beer & liquor companies.  This week we are proud to partner with Red Eye Brewing Company and offer up Thrust and our very own collaborative brew Slope-Side on special. Plus the Adult Race League kicks off & the Historic Chalet is open for dinner & drinks.  With 5″ of new snow it will be a great night to hit the slopes!

Family Fest & More Fireworks

Our first Family Festival is this weekend and we have a fun one planned with some new activities for kids and families to enjoy.  SAFER will be here with a fire truck for kids and families to check out and we’ll also have some of our cooler toys out for kids to check out.  Saturday & Sunday we have Groomer Rides available for guests from 10am – 12noon. Reserve Here & Select 1/8/22 or 1/9/22 in the date field.  Rides are about 10 minutes and are $10 per person.  Limit two per ride and will be staged over by the Alpine Training Center Yurt.  During the day on Saturday we’ll have a scavenger hunt with clues given out on our social media (stories) every hour on the hour.  Use the clues to find prize eggs across the hill.  Bring them back to the office and walk away with a cool prize!  An artist will also be creating a snow sculpture and at 5pm we’ll have free s’mores on the Historic Deck for kids.  Yes I said for KIDS….  7PM we’ll light up the sky again with our second straight Saturday night of Fireworks!

The Granite Grom Jam

Sunday is one of my favorite events – The Granite Grom Jam! This is an event I brought with me from my roots back East.  Over 15 years ago I created the Grommet Jam at Mount Snow in Vermont.  It easily became a staple event and soon was sold out every week.  It’s a simple concept.  A teaching element in the morning followed by a lunch break and a fun filled event in the afternoon.  It’s just for those 12 & under and it is all about fun and encouraging our little guys & girls to do their best.  We will host this event in a brand new park built specifically for this genre!  Registration is limited to 40 kids.  $30 a kid includes a Polito’s Pizza lunch & drink for the kids!  Registration is now available by calling our office at 715-845-2846 (online registration will be available soon).

Lutsen Mountains

One last note that I think is really cool.  On Wednesday, our owner Charles Skinner closed on retaining 100% ownership of Lutsen Mountains in which he and his family previously only had a 50% share in.  With one owner for both ski areas it will allow us to work more closely together.  This could mean new cross over products for sure but it also helps us as a company in sharing of resources, technology and information. This helps greatly and I look forward to working with our friends and colleagues at Lutsen a bit more in the future.

Happy New Year.  I’m already stoked about how 2022 has started.  I hope it continues to deliver more snow and more fun for our family and yours!

I’ll see you on the slopes
