We’re just over 10 days away from Christmas as I write this blog and things are looking good for a wonderful & white Christmas vacation week here at Granite Peak. While the temperatures didn’t work out this week for us to continue our expansion plans to the East, they will be coming in cold starting Thursday. Our team is now well rested to get after it for a big push towards Christmas Day.
Our strategy isn’t going to change, as we wish to get as many- if not all lifts spinning for the busy holiday vacation weeks. Snow has already been laid down on Superstition, Carver, Whitetail, and Snowflake and those should pop open first with other trails like Meadowridge, Cottonwood, and Whitewolf to follow. Over in the West, White Lightning, Timberwolf, Hawks Ridge & Top Notch and some of Sweet Return also have snow laid down and they will pop open as soon as we can to give more terrain off the Comet Lift.
Snow in the Forecast
We have a pretty huge storm system rolling in that is going to impact pretty much the entire country. It already dropped feet upon feet of snow in the Sierras and Lake Tahoe region along with some of the high peaks in Colorado.

Sister resorts Lutsen and Snowriver are in the path for some major accumulation as are we, while it might take a few days. There are ranges from anywhere from 4″ to 12″ by the end of the week floating out there and we’ll be happy to take any snow from the clouds to continue to freshen up our base and coverage.
Fun in Store for the Holidays
This weekend we will welcome Santa as he will take some time away from the North Pole to drive one of our Grooming Machines around during the day on Saturday to give kids a unique visitor experience that you can’t find in a shopping center mall or elsewhere.

As of the writing of this blog, there are still some spots available for $20 a ride. Check out the link here to reserve your spot with Santa in his grooming cat!
Looking ahead to Christmas Week we are open Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and we will operate our regularly scheduled Saturday & Sunday hours of 9am – 9pm. Monday the 26th – Thursday 29th we’ll also open up at 9am with all chalets and outlets open.
Historic Chalet Opens Saturday
The Historic Chalet is opening up for the season on Saturday. The Historic Menu will be back featuring tasty menu items to pair with a plethora of taps on hand. The new bathrooms are now open in the basement and offer a nice upgrade from those dark and dingy ones from years past. Historic will operate Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays as well as Holidays this year with a special Wednesday night offering as well for our Adult Race League! Our official après ski musician Brad Emanuel will be taking the stage for his weekly stint inside starting at 3pm.
Little Legends, Ski School, and GPST Programs Have Kicked Off!

It has been great to see so many little kids out there on the hill. Little Legends kicked off with its new mini-legends on Sunday and our first installment of the older new night program starts tonight. Slots are still available for our February programs if you are interested and waiting lists are available for the January session.
A personal Happy Birthday!
Finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t wish my wife Mary a very happy 40th birthday. She is the rock of our family both figuratively and physically.

She’s an avid Cross-Fit athlete and coach. You won’t see me taking her on in a physical challenge. I do work out but not nearly as intensely as she does. I’m happy to embrace my Ski-Dad-Bod and enjoy a few libations and cheese curds probably more than I should. Plus I hate kale.
Thanks for being you, Mary, and keeping us Fisher Boys in line. 😉
We’ll see you on the slopes & Happy Holidays!
Greg

at what time of the day does Historic open? 10am? 11am?
Hey Aaron. 10am.
Hey Greg,
It’s 10:15am on Saturday and the Historic isn’t open.
It was open 5 minutes later….
Hello, is it true that only 1 of the 3 real lifts will run the week of 12/19 to 12/23? Just trying to confirm if you are open yet.
Blitzen and Comet are running daily with the carpet. Cupid will likely spin later this week as snowmaking is finishing up in the east on some trails. Dasher in the west is looking like Christmas Week to open.
Can an unaccompanied minor ski at 15 years of age with a waiver? Without?
As long as the waiver is signed by a parent in advance.
