I love spring....

Spring is in full swing here in Wausau and I love it.  While it does mean the end of the ski season is closer than the beginning spring skiing is like a season within a season.  The soft snow is super fun to just slide around and I truly enjoy bashing the bumps with a t-shirt on.  Photo_1080295568_DJI_144_jpg_4193140_0_2021319192528_photo_original

This weekend (March 20 & 21st) will feature two beautiful bluebird days with temps in the mid-50s while we truly usher in spring during the equinox.

Being the Spring Equinox, the sun angle is the same as the Autumnal Equinox. In other words, sunburn season is back. Plan accordingly and apply the sunscreen.  The white snow will only reflect the suns rays and you'll get twice as much sun as you would on a golf course!

Speaking of golf congrats to our friends over at Rib Mountain Golf Club which opened up Friday for the season!  It was so cool to look down from the top of the hill to see the golf carts (I was shocked they were allowing them on the course honestly) around course.  My wife and I recently became members at the Wausau Country Club.  We will be spending time there with our boys this summer hanging by the pool and trying not to hit the little white ball too many times!  1BB7BCCE-E1B4-48B1-B3E2-F3B5EBF63E3B

Thank you to our Season Passholders who came out last weekend and to the many that sat down with me on Sunday morning.  It was great to get some feedback, answer some questions about the future, and generally reminisce about what was a challenging yet rewarding season here at Granite Peak.  F79F7156-3F5D-4414-A222-6733EA6D8DCD

The #1 question I've been answering on social media and our call center has been when are you closing.  I've said from the beginning that I circled April 18th as our target close date.  Will we get there - I don't know.  At this point it's up to Mother Nature.  I skied yesterday afternoon in the 50s and we still have edge to edge coverage on just about everything out there and I must say that I'm quite impressed with the job our grooming team has done moving snow around.

I'm committed to daily operations through Easter (April 4) then we will evaluate our snow pack and demand levels.  After tomorrow we will pretty much be one of a handful of resorts still operating in the Midwest and I think the only one in the state.

Looking ahead we do have some light wet weather rolling in this week.  It's not a major wash out and can we really complain about the weather this year?  I don't think so.  Considering it's late season and that the rain appears to be mostly in the evening hours we are going to change our operations slightly.  Monday 3/22 - Wednesday 3/24 we'll only be open 10am - 5pm with Comet, Santa, Blizzard and Cupid spinning.  We will suspend night operations.  Thursday we'll resume our normal 9pm closing.  I've updated our hours of operation for the remainder of the season and I would urge everyone to check our snow report or social media daily as lift operations may vary.
