Fool's Spring. It's a legit thing. It happens every year and not just in Wisconsin but across many areas around this time of the year. I saw an interesting tweet the other day from a local meteorologist and it is so on the dot correct I thought I'd share it here because it totally pertains to our operations and plans moving forward!
We've had a little taste of spring and it seems SOOO MUCH warmer than it really is only because we had the deep Polar Vortex hit us only a week ago. Truth be told yes this week has been slightly above average but overnight lows are actually dead on if not a little colder. We have two small shots of snow coming in this weekend and temps on Sunday and Monday are in the low 30s and 20s. It's the annual battle between winter and spring that provides some fun conditions that can be different day to day.
I've only been in Wisconsin since August but we had a similar scenario in New England with a few more seasons such as "Mud Season," "Black Fly Season" and "Stick Season." All of those I'm happy to have left behind!
It is though time to face it that we are now closer to the end of the season than the beginning and the solar warmth has prompted us to receive a few inquiries online and over the phone about CLOSING!?! And if we will have snow this week.
LET ME GET ON MY SOAP BOX HERE! WE ARE NOT CLOSING ANYTIME SOON. I have had APRIL 18th circled on my calendar since we opened. Now we all know that Mother Nature has the keys to this train and things can get derailed or even extended based on the weather so we'll just have to wait and see but I feel very confident that we have the snow depth, a talented grooming team, and the piece in place to have another 45+ days of the season.
What also happens in spring at most resorts? Next year season pass sales. We are no different!
Starting Monday we will offer a special renewal period for our current season passholders that will give our most loyal guests first crack at getting their passes secured with the lowest prices possible. I'm happy to announce that we will be adding a brand new pass this year THE LEGENDARY PASS. This pass will be unlimited, offer up the similar benefits as our previous 20-21 season pass but the biggest thing it will offer: unlimited access to our sister resort and Minnesota's largest resort Lutsen Mountains. The opportunity to work with Lutsen and give you access to the two biggest ski resorts this side of Lake Michigan was something I'm really excited about.
We will continue to offer up Unlimited (Gold), Blackout (Silver) and a Midweek (Bronze) pass options (including popular Family Passes) as well that will just be valid at Granite Peak. Stay tuned and watch for an email to hit season passholder inboxes on Monday to get first crack and the lowest prices available through March 13th.
Starting March 14th our passes will be available to the general public and new passholders. We will also launch a brand new Payment Plan! This plan will allow you to pay your season pass off over the summer with a $99, $199, or $299 down payment based on the selection of your pass.
If you've been around the past few midweeks you may have seen a ton of cameras around. We have been taking advantage of the sun and the snow and are working on footage for next year and this year. This week coming up will be no different as we'll be filming and shooting photography all week long.
Finally we'll keep the early Saturday & Sunday openings of Comet going for the rest of the ski season! Comet and the terrain off our main lift will be available starting at 8am. Sundance Chalet will open early at 7:30 but rentals and tickets will continue to open at 8am. This early lift access is designed for our passholders and extended stay guests but all are welcome to take part as long as they have a ticket. Just stay to the main area of the resort as if you go to the West (Dasher) or the East (Cupid) you'll find yourself stuck over there until 9am. Even if lifts are spinning that DOES NOT mean they are open we have pre-operations going on starting at 8am.
Stay Safe. Thanks for continuing to wear masks and have fun!
