DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS  We don't usually get hit shows this fresh from Broadway.  Thanks to a well-placed hole in the tour, Scoundrels finds it way to the ARTSblock only two years removed from its New York acclaim.  The funny, tuneful caper is based on 1988's hit movie with Michael Caine and Steve Martin.

THE ACTING COMPANY: SHAKESPEARE'S THE TEMPEST   After the 1611 premiere of the The Tempest, historians believe that Shakespeare retired from management of his London theater compnay and wrote only with a protégé named John Fletcher.  This play, then, is the culmination of this legendary careet, full of magic, tragedy, romance and comendy, and celebrating the power of forgiveness.  The Acting Company, with its mission to devleop a new generation of American actors, is the perfect interpreter of this actors' play from the quill of an actor-manager.

ONE NIGHT OF QUEEN  For most of my career, I stayed away from so-called tribute bands.  With so many original rockers dying young, however, I've reconsidered.  A high-quality, authentic recreation of the work of a never-to-be-seen-again group like the Beatles, Pink Floyd, or Queen puts today's music in context as it delivers a helluva show.

THE PRODUCERS Frankly, I didn't think anything could top the tasteless hilarity of Mel Brooks' 1960s movie farce.  Then I saw Brooks' own Broadway adaptation - it was the second time in my life that I have literally fallen off my seat, I laughed so hard.  The film version of the musical (Brooks has no shame) is terrific, but doesn't have the impact of seeing it live.  And, to be honest, Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell are miscast in the movie; the no-names we get will be funnier in those roles, I promise you.
